Roborock S7

Unveiled at CES 2021, the Roborock S7 is the newest and one of the most powerful models in the Chinese manufacturer’s portfolio. Even though its name leads us to believe it’s the successor to the Roborock S6 MaxV, the new vacuum cleaner is more like an S5 Max with a more efficient wash function and higher suction power.

If last year we said about the S5 Max that it was the best vacuum cleaner with wash function produced by Roborock, here it is, it only lasted a year and it has already been surpassed. In all this time, Roborock has developed new innovative technologies, and with the S7 has managed to implement a unique washing system, making it the best washing robot vacuum cleaner today.

While the wash function we find on most modern robot vacuum cleaner models is somewhat similar, the S7 gets some significant improvements that I don’t think we’d find on another product of its kind.

For example, with the Roborock S7 we can finally get rid of the “No Mop Zone” option, that’s because the vacuum cleaner integrates an ultrasonic sensor that automatically detects carpets and picks up the mop, so you don’t run over the carpet with it. A very useful feature for those with multiple carpets in the home. Roborock is the first manufacturer in the world to introduce this technology to robot vacuum cleaners, but we will most likely see it in other brands in the near future.

Another technology that we find only in the Roborock S7 is “Sonic Mopping”. With “Sonic Mopping”, when mopping the floor, the mop vibrates (it has up to 3000 vibrations per minute) and pulses with 2 times the power of the S5 Max or S6 MaxV mop. This should even help to clean dry spots on the floor. All these new technologies introduced make the S7 the most powerful and efficient robot vacuum cleaner.

Although the focus was clearly on the wash function, the S7 has a suction power of 2500 Pa, making it as powerful as the S6 MaxV. It didn’t reach 3000 Pa like the Dreame D9 has, but I’m convinced that the 2500 Pa is enough. In addition, the S7 also gets an improved brush, now made entirely of rubberized plastic. This should ensure a longer lifespan and get rid of tangled hairs. Whether or not it’s more effective than the classic brush remains to be seen.

Another new feature is the “Child Lock” function, which locks the vacuum cleaner’s physical buttons so that children or pets can’t interrupt its operating program.

The S7 will also be the first Roborock robot vacuum cleaner compatible with the upcoming automatic emptying station. This is not currently available, but we have promises that it will be on the market by the end of the year.

Apart from these new features, the S7 retains the same technical specifications as the S5 Max. It can be used for multi-level housing, the dust and water container remain the same, and the promised autonomy is up to 3h (half an hour longer than the S5 Max), although the battery has the same capacity.

New technologies make the S7 one of the best performing robot vacuum cleaners available on the market. Personally, I’m interested in the washing function, specifically the technology that allows you to lift the mop onto carpets. I’d be curious to find out if it does well in real life, but in general Roborock products do what they promise, so I expect it to perform as advertised.
